Sympathy & funeral flowers
A gentle guide to sending sympathy flowers
When someone has died, flowers say what's hard to put into words. Here is what we tell people who call the shop unsure what to send.
For the service or for the home?
Flowers for the service (standing sprays, wreaths, casket sprays and larger arrangements) are sent to the funeral home or church. Close family usually orders the casket spray; friends, coworkers and extended family often send standing sprays or arrangements.
Flowers for the home are smaller arrangements or plants sent to the family. They're welcome before or long after the service, and they're the kinder choice if the service is private or has already happened.
When to order
Order at least a day before the service when you can. Order by 1 pm for same-day delivery, Monday to Saturday. At checkout, choose the funeral home or church and enter the service time; we deliver before it begins.
What to write on the card
- With deepest sympathy, [your names]
- Remembering [name] with love
- Our thoughts are with you and your family
- Forever in our hearts
Keep it short. The family reads every card, often weeks later.
Ribbons and banners
Standing sprays and wreaths can carry a ribbon such as Beloved Grandmother or With love, the Smith family. Add the wording at checkout.
